Anambra Government Sacks 8 Vigilantes Over Assault on NYSC Corps Member
The Anambra State Government has moved quickly to act on the disturbing case of Jennifer Edema Elohor, the NYSC corps member who was assaulted and stripped by vigilantes in Oba, Idemili South LGA.
According to the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, eight members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group (Operation Udo Ga-Achi) have been dismissed from service for their role in the attack. The announcement was made on Wednesday, August 20, in Awka.
Emeakayi revealed that beyond disciplining the culprits, the state government also settled Jennifer’s medical bills, replaced her damaged belongings, and formally apologized to her family and the NYSC as an institution.
He added that the dismissed operatives would not escape justice, stressing that they would be handed over to the police for prosecution.
“The Soludo administration will not tolerate any act of brutality, abuse of power, or misconduct from security operatives. Anyone caught will face dismissal and prosecution,” Emeakayi said.
It will be recalled that a viral video recorded on July 23, 2025, showed the young corps member being beaten and stripped despite presenting her NYSC ID card. The video surfaced online on August 19, sparking nationwide outrage and forcing the government to take disciplinary action.
