BREAKING: EFCC Reportedly Tags VeryDarkMan as a Bandit
Martins Vincent Otse, better known online as VeryDarkMan, was allegedly called a “bandit,” blindfolded, and beaten during his arrest by EFCC officers—claims made by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.
Adeyanju’s law firm shared a statement on X (formerly Twitter), describing what happened before and during the arrest, calling out what they believe to be a serious abuse of power by the anti-graft agency.
According to the firm, the incident happened on May 2, 2025. Otse, his mother Mrs. Blessing Otse, and a friend, Mr. Steven Avuara (also known as C-Pack), had gone to GTBank in Garki, Area 3, Abuja. They were there to ask about what they described as repeated, unexplained deductions from Mrs. Otse’s account.
After finishing at the bank, the three tried to leave, but were held inside the security doors for over five minutes.

Just outside the bank, things escalated. The statement says they were suddenly surrounded by armed men in black uniforms. The men allegedly held them at gunpoint, assaulted them, and put blindfolds over their eyes. Otse and Avuara, the statement claims, were accused of being “bandits” and even threatened with being shot—right in front of Otse’s mother.
When word of the incident reached Adeyanju’s team, two lawyers—Marvin Omorogbe and Steven Eze—headed to the EFCC headquarters. There, they confirmed Otse and Avuara were in custody, detained by officers attached to the agency’s Special Duty Committee (Unit 4).

They weren’t allowed to see Otse, who reportedly refused visitors, but they did speak with Avuara, who gave them a detailed account of what had happened.
The legal team tried to find out why Avuara was being held but got no clear answers. Instead, EFCC officers showed them a warrant for Otse’s arrest, allegedly signed by Magistrate Njideka Iloanya-Duru of Wuse Zone 2, based on accusations of cyber stalking.
Despite repeated questions, the EFCC still didn’t clarify any charges against Avuara. When officers tried to interrogate him anyway, the lawyers walked out, saying the move violated Avuara’s constitutional right to know what he was being accused of.
“We’re still in talks with the EFCC,” the statement concluded. “But we’re calling on the Commission to respect the constitutional rights of our clients.”
