Colorado Art Teacher Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing Incident

Authorities in Colorado have arrested Matthew Regnier, a 33-year-old art teacher at Monument Academy, following a violent stabbing attack that left one man dead and two women critically injured in Colorado Springs on October 31, 2025.

Police say they responded to a domestic disturbance call on Friday night and found Regnier naked, covered in blood, and holding a two-year-old child. The child, according to investigators, witnessed the attack and was found crying at the scene.

Inside the residence, officers discovered three people suffering from multiple stab wounds. The young child’s uncle later died in the hospital, while the two women were taken to a nearby medical facility with serious injuries.

According to an affidavit, Regnier claimed he acted in self-defense, alleging that the victims had attacked him. However, authorities said video footage recorded by Regnier himself contradicted that statement. The recording, reportedly taken in selfie mode, showed him speaking freely before the camera captured the victims’ screams and blood on the walls.

Police also confirmed that officers had previously visited the same residence on September 26, following another domestic incident involving Regnier. At the time, a woman told police she planned to file for separation from him.

Weapon Used

Regnier had been employed as an art instructor at Monument Academy and served as a junior varsity soccer coach at Palmer Ridge High School. The Lewis-Palmer School District confirmed that he has been dismissed from his position and that full cooperation is being provided to law enforcement agencies.

“This news is heartbreaking for our entire school community,” said Collin Vinchattle, Executive Director of Monument Academy. “The safety, well-being, and trust of our students, families, and staff remain our top priorities as we continue to support those affected.”

Authorities are continuing investigations into the incident, with Regnier currently facing multiple charges related to the attack.
