Former US President Donald Trump has launched a $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC, accusing the broadcaster of defamation over how his January 6 speech was edited and presented.
According to the lawsuit, Trump claims the BBC altered parts of his speech in a way that changed its meaning and painted him in a false light. He argues that the edited version could influence public perception and affect the credibility of the 2024 election.
Trump’s legal team insists the edits were deliberate, saying the broadcaster stitched together portions of the speech to create a misleading narrative. The BBC has already apologized for the edit but maintains that it does not amount to defamation.
Legal analysts say the case may face hurdles, especially since the documentary in question was not broadcast in the United States.
