“Don’t Lose Yourself in Marriage,” Ehizogie Ogbebor Warns Women

Celebrity interior designer Ehizogie Ogbebor has spoken out against what she describes as destructive marriages, urging women not to lose themselves in relationships that damage their mental and emotional well-being.

Sharing her personal story, Ehizogie revealed that she married at 18 and left the marriage two years later with two children after enduring abuse that nearly cost her son his life. She said the experience shaped her strong beliefs about self-worth, marriage, and mental health.

She criticised the culture that encourages women to remain in unhappy marriages for decades under the excuse of endurance, children, or family pressure. According to her, many women slowly lose their confidence, identity, and peace while trying to hold together relationships with partners who show no understanding or appreciation.

Ehizogie also warned that children are deeply affected by toxic home environments, arguing that staying in an abusive marriage “for the kids” often causes long-term harm. She added that many women who sacrifice everything are eventually abandoned when their partners move on.

While clarifying that she is not promoting divorce over minor issues, she stressed the importance of recognizing when a marriage has become emotionally unsafe and beyond repair. She encouraged women to seek help, protect their mental health, and choose peace over fear of public judgment.
