EFCC Nabs 8 Suspects for Illegal Mining in Ogun State
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate in Ikoyi, has arrested eight individuals—two Chinese nationals and six Nigerians—over suspected involvement in illegal mining activities in Ogere, Ogun State.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the arrests were made during a sting operation conducted on Friday, May 9, 2025.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Zhang Hang Lin, Gao Pei Hai, Matthew Mathias, Oluwaseun Amoo, Wasiu Ademola Alao, Ajibola Nurudeen, Ibrahim Yinusa, and Saidu Shuaibu.
Among the items seized were three trucks loaded with sacks containing substances believed to be ground lithium powder.
Other recovered items include a Toyota 4Runner SUV, mobile phones, ATM cards, international passports, four LED flashlights, samples of suspected low-grade lithium, and various unidentified solid minerals.
