Flooding Forces Mass Evacuations as Atmospheric River Hits US and Canada

Heavy flooding is spreading across parts of the US and Canada as an intense atmospheric river continues to dump rain on the Pacific Northwest, forcing more people out of their homes.

In Washington state, rivers that were already full are now close to breaking records. Officials say the Skagit and Snohomish rivers are rising fast, increasing the risk to nearby communities. Governor Ferguson has declared a statewide emergency, warning that roads, bridges, and other key infrastructure are under threat.

Emergency crews are still moving residents to safety in towns like Sultan and Orting, where floodwaters have cut off access in some areas.

Across the border in British Columbia, the situation is also worsening. The Nooksack River is close to overflowing, prompting authorities in Abbotsford to order hundreds of residents to evacuate immediately. Several major routes leading into Vancouver remain shut due to flooding and safety concerns.

Weather officials say the rain isn’t done yet, with more downpours expected through the weekend, raising fears of further flooding on both sides of the border.
