Guy Ludar Killed as Israel Defense Forces Faces Hezbollah, Iran Attacks

Tensions across the Israel–Lebanon front escalated overnight following a deadly operational error and renewed cross-border attacks, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

An Israeli soldier, Guy Ludar, 21, was killed and another seriously wounded during a raid in the southern Lebanese village of Shebaa. The operation, carried out by the Maglan Unit of the Commando Brigade, was aimed at arresting a suspect accused of assisting Hezbollah.

Preliminary findings indicate the casualties resulted from “friendly fire,” after a soldier mistakenly opened fire, believing suspects were attempting to flee. Despite the incident, troops completed the mission and detained the suspect, who was taken into Israel for interrogation. A full investigation is underway.

Hours later, rockets were launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel in what the IDF described as the first attack by Hezbollah in more than 12 hours. Some projectiles were intercepted, while others were allowed to land in open areas in line with military protocol.

Earlier, the military had intercepted several drones launched toward the Galilee Panhandle. Sirens that sounded in the Western Galilee before midnight and again in the morning were later confirmed to be false alarms.

The escalation comes amid broader regional developments. The Israeli Air Force said it struck more than 120 targets across Iran within the past day, focusing on facilities linked to ballistic missiles, drone systems, and air defenses. The targets reportedly included infrastructure associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in western and central Iran.

In response, the IDF reported detecting multiple ballistic missile launches from Iran targeting northern Israel. The latest, described as the third such attack of the day, triggered sirens but was successfully intercepted, with no injuries reported.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah claimed it had struck an Israeli Navy vessel off the Lebanese coast with a cruise missile, alleging a direct hit after prolonged tracking. The IDF said it was unaware of any such incident.

The situation remains fluid as military operations and exchanges continue across multiple fronts.
