Huawei Kirin 9030: Global Release Date and Performance Boost
Huawei has been playing catch-up in smartphone performance ever since losing access to its main chip supplier, TSMC. With US restrictions in place, the company shifted to China’s SMIC for its latest Kirin processors. Now, fresh reports suggest the next generation of Huawei flagships could see a serious speed boost thanks to advances in chip technology.
According to reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, the upcoming Kirin 9030 SoC is expected to deliver around 20% better performance compared to its predecessor. With the Kirin 9020-fueled Pura 80 series holding Huawei’s flagship title, attention now shifts to the Mate 80 family comprising the Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro which 80 RS Ultimate Edition, could arrive with this faster and more capable chip.

Recent leaks dispute earlier rumors that Huawei’s new Kirin processors would feature a 5nm process. SMIC, China’s largest semiconductor manufacturer, still lacks the tools for advanced processing nodes. Instead, it may be relying on multi-patterning a method that involves repeatedly etching a silicon wafer to achieve the right transistor density and features.
From what’s been revealed so far, Huawei might even equip the Mate 80 series with a small cooling fan, all while keeping the phones waterproof. A dual-layer OLED panel and titanium chassis could headline the Mate 80 RS, with leaks pointing to a major camera upgrade across the series including a new SmartSens sensor for sharper and more detailed shots.
