JESUS IN THE QUR’AN: IS HE MORE THAN A PROPHET?
Many Muslims honour Jesus (Isa) as a prophet but have you ever examined what the Qur’an itself says about Him?
Let’s reason together. The truth never fears honest questions.
1. Jesus Is the Only One Called “The Word of God”
“…Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a Messenger of Allah, and His WORD, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him…” — Surah 4:171
Ask yourself: Why is no other prophet in the Qur’an called the Word of God or the Spirit of God? Can the Word of God be created? Can it be separated from God?
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” — John 1:1
The Qur’an confirms this unique title — Jesus is clearly more than just a man!
2. Jesus Was Born of a Virgin — By God’s Command Alone
“She said: ‘My Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me?’ He said: ‘So it will be: Allah creates what He wills…’” — Surah 3:47
Unlike Adam, who had no father or mother, Jesus was born without a father — a miraculous birth. If He were merely another prophet, why such a divine sign?
“And (remember) her who guarded her chastity: We breathed into her Our Spirit, and We made her and her son a sign for all peoples.” — Surah 21:91
Only God creates by command — this was not a natural birth but a divine act.
3. Jesus Created Life
“…I create for you out of clay the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird — by Allah’s leave…” — Surah 3:49
Jesus created — something only God is described as doing. No other prophet is recorded in the Qur’an to have created life.
4. Jesus Is Alive in Heaven — and Will Return
“They killed him not, nor crucified him… Allah raised him up unto Himself…” — Surah 4:157–158
Unlike other prophets who died, the Qur’an teaches that Jesus is alive in heaven.
And He will return again:
“By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, son of Mary (Isa) will shortly descend among you…” — Hadith (Sahih Bukhari 3448)
Why is Jesus the one coming back — not Muhammad or Moses? Because His mission isn’t over. His work is eternal.
More Than a Prophet — Signs of Divinity
The Qur’an itself highlights the uniqueness of Jesus:
- The Word of God
- The Spirit of God
- Born of a virgin
- Creator of life
- Alive in heaven
- Returning again
These are not the signs of an ordinary man — they are signs of Divinity.
Jesus is More Than a Prophet
He is God’s Word made flesh — and His name is above every name!
