Manchester City Open Talks to Sign Crystal Palace Captain Marc Guehi
Manchester City have begun talks to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi as they move quickly to secure the England defender ahead of the summer.
City are said to be close to agreeing personal terms with the 25-year-old and have opened discussions with Crystal Palace over a transfer fee. Palace are holding out for around £40 million, despite Guehi having only six months left on his contract.
If he waits until the end of the season, Guehi could leave on a free transfer and earn a large signing-on bonus. However, City are believed to have made a strong financial offer, promising to outmatch any deal he might receive in the summer.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner had blocked a late move to Liverpool last summer but is now open to selling the defender during this transfer window. Guehi has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Liverpool were close to signing Guehi last year, with a £35 million deal nearly completed. The defender had even started his medical on deadline day before Palace withdrew from the agreement at the last minute.
With City now pushing hard, Guehi’s future could be decided sooner rather than later.
