Marcus Morris Sr. Arrested in Florida Over Alleged Fraud Incident

Marcus Morris Sr., the former NBA player many remember from his time with the Phoenix Suns, has been arrested. He’s not just known for his game, but also for being one half of the Morris twins – with Markieff Morris being his identical brother and fellow pro baller.

The 35-year-old was taken into custody on Sunday, July 27, in Broward County, Florida. According to reports, it was a fraud-related arrest. More specifically, Marcus was accused of issuing a check that bounced due to insufficient funds – this came straight from the county’s arrest records, as reported by USA Today.

His brother, Markieff, wasted no time reacting. He shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), hinting that Marcus was arrested right at the airport. From his tone, it seemed like he felt the whole situation was blown out of proportion. “The wording is crazy,” he wrote. “Damn for that amount of money they’ll embarrass you in the airport with your family.”

Marcus Morris has been around the league. After his run with the Phoenix Suns from 2013 to 2015, he moved to the Detroit Pistons and later wore the jerseys of several big teams – including the Houston Rockets, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, LA Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and more recently, the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2023–24 season.

Outside of playing, he’s also popped up on TV. Just last season, he was seen giving his take as a guest analyst on ESPN, lending his voice to the game he’s spent years mastering.

This isn’t his first legal brush either. Back in 2015, both Marcus and Markieff faced aggravated assault charges after being linked to the beating of a man outside a basketball tournament in Phoenix. But two years later, in 2017, both brothers – along with a third man – were cleared of all charges.

As of now, there’s not much more detail about this current case. But once again, Marcus Morris has made headlines – and unfortunately, it’s not for anything that happened on the court.
