Ondo State Women Protest Half-Naked Over Herdsmen Attacks

For a while now, Nigeria has been going through a series of security threats. On Tuesday, the 13th of August, a group of women protested half-naked to express their discomfort with the threats and issues caused by suspected herdsmen in their community. This protest took place in the Akoko Southwest Council Area of Ondo State. According to the protesters, it was a peaceful protest.

The protest was triggered by the ongoing killing of innocent farmers, including a victim named Sunday Ayeni, by suspected herdsmen. The community has been facing such problems for some time, and farmers are now afraid to go to their farmlands.

According to the information gathered, it was reported that the deceased’s farmland had been tampered with by herdsmen, who allowed their cattle to graze on it. Although the herdsmen were identified by some security agents and settlements were made, this action and discovery angered the herdsmen, leading them to retaliate by attacking the owner of the farmland, Mr. Ayeni. Later, his body was discovered.

The group of women protesting demanded justice for the deceased, Mr. Ayeni, and called for an end to the violence and the invasion of their community by herdsmen. They all gathered at the Palace of the Olubaka of Oka, Oba Adebori Adeleye, dressed in wrappers and protesting half-naked.

One of the leaders, Mrs. Abigail Ojo, stated, “The suspected herdsmen raped some of our women on their farmlands and destroyed our crops. We have had to abandon our farms because of the attacks. We need security agencies to help us find lasting solutions to our problems.”

The Oba of the community, Oba Adebori Adeleye, heard their cries and assured them of maximum security. He also added that certain measures would be put in place to ensure their safety, asking them to be patient as he worked to resolve the situation.
