Oyemykke Blames Igbos for Negative Nigerian Image Abroad (Video)
Oyemykke has stirred up controversy online after laying blame on the Igbo community for the rising wave of anti-Nigerian sentiments abroad.
While several nations, including Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and the UAE, have taken strong stances against Nigerians in recent times—going as far as tightening migration policies—none of them pointed fingers at any specific tribe. But Oyemykke? He did.
In a video shared via Instagram, the UK-based influencer didn’t mince words. He claimed that a pattern exists, and according to him, Igbos are central to it.
“It can’t just be coincidence,” he said, referencing how different countries are reportedly voicing the same complaints about Nigerians. In his view, there’s something the Igbo people might be doing wrong as they spread across countries for business and hustle.
He went on to draw parallels between international complaints and local frustrations, bringing up past Yoruba grievances about how some Igbos operate in Lagos.
“This whole ‘Lagos is for everybody’ talk—how can you move from the East, land in someone’s space, and then try to take control?” he asked, clearly referencing long-standing tribal tensions.
He explained further: “South Africa complains, Dubai complains, Kenya complains, and now Ghana. These can’t all be false accusations. Something isn’t right. And if you listen closely, you’ll hear the same message: dominance, insensitivity, entitlement. These are not my words; they’re repeated concerns from different corners.”
Then he drove his point home with a metaphor. “You can’t leave your father’s house and come to mine, then start showing me that you can overpower me—whether you can or not. Even if you can, don’t rub it in.”
He didn’t deny the strength, drive, or creative energy of the Igbo people. In fact, he acknowledged it. But he insisted that along with these strengths should come cultural awareness and environmental sensitivity.
According to him, when other countries push back, they don’t ask who is Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa. All they see is the Nigerian passport, and all Nigerians face the consequences together.
