Rhinos Return to Uganda After Over 40 Years

After more than four decades, rhinos have been reintroduced to Kidepo Valley National Park, marking an important step in restoring wildlife in Uganda.

Wildlife officials confirmed that two southern white rhinos have been relocated to the park, becoming the first of a planned group of eight animals expected to help rebuild the population.

Rhinos had disappeared from the area after the last one was poached in 1983, leading to their extinction in the wild within Uganda.

Conservation experts say the move is a significant milestone, reflecting years of effort to reintroduce endangered species and strengthen wildlife protection in the country.

More transfers are expected in the coming months as authorities work to establish a stable and sustainable rhino population in the park.
