Sanwo-Olu Denies Rift With Tinubu After Ikoyi Meeting

On Sunday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu addressed speculations about a falling-out with President Bola Tinubu, narrating thats, their bond as nothing less than a typical father-son relationship.

The Governor made the clarification after paying a visit to Tinubu at his Bourdillon home in Ikoyi, Lagos — a visit that included members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the topmost decision-making group within the Lagos APC.

Whispers of discord between the two political heavyweights have grown louder in recent weeks, particularly following the controversial removal—and subsequent reinstatement—of Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Adding fuel to the fire, Sanwo-Olu was notably missing during the official launch of the deep seaport access road project in the Epe–Ijebu-Ode axis earlier in June, an event many expected him to headline. And just days later, a video clip from the commissioning of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway went viral, where Tinubu appeared to sideline Sanwo-Olu, further sparking talk of a rift.

But after Sunday’s closed-door meeting, the Governor addressed journalists and dismissed all the noise.

“There’s absolutely nothing going on,” he said. “Sometimes, people blow things out of proportion — acting more concerned than those directly involved.

“This is a father-and-son relationship. We talk things through, always. There’s no issue.”

He went on to describe Tinubu as both a mentor and leader, saying, “We’re thankful he gave us the opportunity to see him today.”

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat; Speaker Obasa and his deputy, Mojisola Meranda; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and several other influential figures in Lagos politics.
