Segun Sowunmi May Join APC to Support Tinubu in 2027, Says He’s Done Pretending
Segun Sowunmi, a former spokesperson for ex-Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has revealed the condition under which he would throw his support behind President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time program on Tuesday evening, Sowunmi stated that he would have to formally exit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and align himself with the All Progressives Congress (APC) before offering any political backing to Tinubu.
“There’s no point pretending,” he said. “If supporting Tinubu in 2027 becomes my path, I will fully commit by joining his party. I don’t subscribe to the idea of staying in one party while campaigning for another. That’s dishonest.”
Sowunmi emphasized his long-term loyalty to the PDP, noting, “I’ve been with this party for 28 years — far longer than many can claim — but I won’t hesitate to leave if the direction calls for it.”
He criticized internal resistance to reform within the PDP, expressing frustration at the state of the party. “I’ve raised my voice time and again about the need for change. Given the political climate, my background, and my goals, there’s a strong chance I might part ways with the PDP,” he added.
