Niger Gov Reaffirms Commitment to SSSCE Fee Support for Public School Students
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State has reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for students in public secondary schools by maintaining the policy of paying for one of the two Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE).
The Governor, in a directive issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Jibrin Baba Ndace, in Minna, instructed principals across the state to strictly comply with the standing policy on examination fees.
Under the current arrangement, the state government will foot the bill for either the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) or the National Examination Council (NECO) exams for all SS3 students in public schools. Parents, however, are expected to cover the cost of the other exam.
Principals have been clearly warned against compelling parents to pay for both exams, with the Governor vowing disciplinary action against any school head who violates the directive.
“This is part of our commitment to reviving and supporting education across the state. We expect full compliance from all school administrators,” the statement noted.
Parents have also been urged to report any principal who demands payment for both exams, contrary to the government’s standing policy.
