US Takes Control of Another Russian “Shadow Fleet” Tanker
American authorities have taken custody of another oil tanker linked to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” a group of vessels used to bypass international restrictions. The US Coast Guard intercepted and boarded the ship after it spent several days manoeuvring to stay out of contact with US forces.
According to officials, the tanker had recently undergone changes meant to avoid detection. Just two weeks before the seizure, the vessel was renamed Galileo and shifted its registration to Russia, a move believed to be aimed at preventing confiscation.
