The White House says Admiral Frank Bradley acted within the law when he approved a second strike on a boat suspected of drug trafficking. But new reports claiming that two survivors from the initial blast were later killed have intensified scrutiny in Washington.

So far, more than 80 deaths have been linked to similar US operations, and lawmakers on both sides of Congress are no longer taking the Pentagon’s word for it. Committees in both the House and Senate are now demanding full documentation operational files, testimonies, and any available footage to determine whether international law was violated.

Meanwhile, Venezuela has sharply criticised the incident, accusing the United States of using these missions as a cover to undermine its government.
