Atiku Walks Away from PDP: A Long Chapter Closed

Atiku Abubakar has finally drawn the curtain on his long history with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)—the same party he once helped build from the ground up.

No press conference. Just a straightforward letter dated July 14, sent to his PDP Ward Chairman in Jada Ward 1, Adamawa State. In that letter, he didn’t mince words—he’s out. Effective immediately.

According to him, the PDP has strayed too far from the values they once shared. And at this point, sticking around doesn’t feel right anymore.

“I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for.”

Despite the clear-cut exit, Atiku didn’t forget where he came from. He acknowledged the roles the party gave him over the years—from serving two terms as Vice President to carrying the party’s flag in the 2019 and 2023 presidential races. So, no bitterness—just a clean break.

Although, there is already noise about a new opposition force forming, and guess who’s right in the mix? Yes—Atiku. He’s reportedly been making moves, talking with key political figures, and showing interest in the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) as a possible new front.

With all signs pointing to 2027, it looks like the game is only just beginning.
