Liverpool FC have confirmed the signing of Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year contract.

The 23-year-old right-back, who came through the Manchester City academy, is no stranger to British football, having featured in 36 games for Celtic before moving to Germany.

Speaking on the transfer, Frimpong revealed that joining the Reds was a straightforward decision.

“I told my agents, ‘I don’t care how you do it, just make it happen.’ I’m happy to be here,” he said.

Frimpong joined Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021 and has since grown into one of Europe’s most exciting full-backs. He made 190 appearances for the Bundesliga side, scoring 30 goals and providing 44 assists. His standout performances earned him spots in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for both the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns.

The Dutchman also praised new Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who he says played a key role in his decision to join.

“I’ve spoken to the coach a few times. He was very enthusiastic and talked a lot about my strengths,” Frimpong added. “Even the guys in the national team spoke highly of him — some said he’s the best coach they’ve ever worked with.”

Born in Amsterdam, Frimpong made his senior debut for the Netherlands in October 2023 and has earned 12 caps since then.

His arrival is expected to add firepower and depth to Liverpool’s right flank as the club begins a new era under Slot.
