For many young leaders across Africa, pursuing a graduate degree abroad can feel like an impossible dream. But the 2026 Mastercard Foundation Scholarship at McGill University is offering a real chance to turn that dream into something tangible — and fully supported.

This program isn’t just about education. It’s about empowering individuals with vision, offering them world-class learning in Canada, while covering every single cost that might stand in their way — tuition, housing, travel, feeding, a laptop, and more.

What the Scholarship Covers

  • Full tuition for your graduate studies
  • On-campus accommodation in Montreal
  • Monthly stipend for food, transportation, and personal expenses
  • Academic tools — including a book allowance, tutoring, and a laptop
  • Pre-arrival and immigration support

Who’s Eligible to Apply?

This scholarship is designed for passionate changemakers from Sub-Saharan Africa who are ready to make a difference. To qualify, you must:

  • Be a citizen and resident of a Sub-Saharan African country
  • Be applying for a Master’s degree (and not already hold one)
  • Be under 35 years old at the time of application
  • Have a strong academic record (First Class Honours preferred)
  • Show clear leadership and community impact
  • Hold a valid passport and be eligible for a Canadian study permit
  • Not have dual citizenship or permanent residence in Canada, the US, UK, or EU

Application Process

  1. Check your eligibility carefully
  2. Complete the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Application Form
  3. Wait for pre-screening — successful candidates will be invited to apply to McGill
  4. Receive a fee waiver and instructions for applying to McGill University

Note: Do not apply to McGill directly until you have been pre-screened by the Mastercard Foundation Program. Applications outside this process will not be accepted.
