Nigerian Doctors React as TVC Reporter Criticises Strike Over Toluwanisings’ Death

Nigerian doctors have responded to criticism from TVC reporter Riyah Abdul, who condemned healthcare workers for embarking on a strike on the day late gospel artiste Toluwanisings reportedly slumped and required urgent medical attention.

The singer reportedly slumped at his home in Ibadan on Wednesday, October 14, and was taken to several hospitals but was turned away due to the ongoing doctors’ strike.

His death sparked widespread shock and reignited conversations about the state of Nigeria’s healthcare system, particularly as doctors were on strike to demand better remuneration and improved working conditions.

Reacting to the incident, Abdul argued that doctors have a responsibility to save lives, as required by their professional oath, and should uphold that duty at all times. She maintained that the medical profession should not be driven solely by financial gain but also by a commitment to preserving human life.

The reporter also questioned how the striking doctors would feel knowing that the singer died after reportedly being unable to access medical care because of the industrial action.
