Israeli Troops Prevent Settlers From Harming Displaced Palestinian Family in Jalud
Overnight, Israeli forces escorted the displaced Tubasi family back to their home in the West Bank village of Jalud, after a High Court ruling required the military to secure their return. The family had been forced to leave in July following repeated settler harassment and violence.
As IDF soldiers and Border police officers brought the family into the house, more than 100 Israeli rioters arrived in Jalud and set fire to a house next to the Tubasi home. The settlers then tried to enter the Tubasi house, and the army said “severe violence” broke out. Israeli forces “physically prevented harm to the family and endured aggressive violence from the rioters,” the army said, adding that their actions prevented a more severe incident.
Outside, the rioters blocked roads with large stones, set tires on fire, threw stones at security forces, and set fire to Palestinian homes and vehicles, including two belonging to the Tubasi family. Three Border Police officers were lightly injured, and a vehicle belonging to Israeli security forces was damaged by the settlers.
